Stop Motion Animation
Sidecar Handcrafted Goods
Located in Lincoln, Nebraska, Sidecar Handcrafted Goods carries a spectacular selection of paper-related items and handmade local gifts - cards, papers, pens and totes from artisans near and far. To create public awareness and drive traffic to their retail storefront for the holiday shopping season, Sidecar needed something eye-catching and playful to break through the clutter on social media.
Playing on the idea that most goods that Sidecar carries are either made by hand or designed to be hand-held, a distinctive animation technique with a handmade feel (stop-motion) was used to bring some of their product pairings to life.

A technique called 'rotoscoping' was used to remove armatures that aided with the animation. This process includes masking out unwanted objects frame-by-frame. For reference, every frame of video can contain anywhere between 12-240 frames-per-second (fps). If you ever hear the phrase 'We'll fix it in post (production)', rotoscoping could be what they're referring to.
